The World Economic Forum’s Collaboration in Cities: From Sharing to “Sharing Economy” has just been released. We as shareNL contributed to this whitepaper that addresses key terminology, motivation and benefits, and both the opportunities and challenges that cities encounter when approaching the new models of sharing. The different case studies from cities around the world – including Seattle, London, New York, Melbourne, Sao Paulo, Kigali (Rwanda), Seoul, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Kamaishi (Japan) – show how sharing is transforming citizens’ lives, boosting social cohesion and even protecting the environment.

Japanese Delegation visits The Netherlands to learn about sharing economy

In recent years local governments in the Netherlands, most notably in the city of Amsterdam, have been very active on creating a well-functioning sharing economy ecosystem. This has led to the emergence of numerous successful companies such as Peerby, Konnektid and Snappcar. In Japan similar initiatives are taking place, mainly led by a group of dedicated ‘sharing’ companies. Developments are however still in a rather early stage.

Als geboren en getogen Antwerpse blijf ik een warm hart toe dragen aan de stad. Antwerpen is een bijzondere stad, met veel verborgen schatten. Wat in Amsterdam sneller aan de grote klok wordt gehangen, wordt in Antwerpen discreet mee omgegaan. Het creëert soms een gevoel van een mysterieuze stad ook wel. Een van de verborgen parels van de stad, is het Stadslab2050. Een labo dat in tegenstelling tot het centrale bestuur, veel ruimte heeft voor experiment en open naar de toekomst durft te kijken. Ik twitterde laatst: “Stadslab2050 maakt de Antwerpenaar weer trots”, en dat beaam ik vandaag nog steeds. Ik vond het een verrijking om de deeleconomie mee te verkennen in m’n eigen stad, en vanuit shareNL in Amsterdam een bijdrage te kunnen leveren. Gert vertelt er zelf meer over.

Access for all | Poverty policy in the collaborative economy

In Amsterdam (Amsterdam, Netherlands) more than 180.000 people are supported by social security and welfare (almost 1 out of 5 people). Though, they are not the ones who are taking most advantage of the opportunities the sharing economy brings. The local government is looking into how to address this issue by enabling access to sharing platforms with the local city pass. Yesterday at 'Dit is pas Amsterdam' at Pakhuis de Zwijger we spoke about how to encourage an inclusive growth of the sharing economy, thus how to provide access to all goods and services through the sharing economy for people who could benefit the most. Sharing City Game

During our Ouishare Fest 2016 workshop “Designing a Sharing City”, we played the Sharing City Game: combining grass roots and grass tops level experience from both Shareable and shareNL. Instead of giving a talk about how we co-designed Amsterdam Sharing City – which is a very interesting topic as well (read further) -, we decided to have people experience themselves what it means to take part in the design of a Sharing City. And no better way, than to invite them to play!

In Amsterdam, the sharing economy is there to stay. The growth in locally to globally operating sharing initiatives is remarkable. Since 2015, Amsterdam is the first Sharing City in Europe, and as such, the progressive leader in an expanding field. Samenwerking tussen Airbnb en gemeente Amsterdam

Partijen tekenen overeenkomst over particuliere verhuur, en inning toeristenbelasting

Airbnb en de gemeente Amsterdam gaan nauw samenwerken om ervoor te zorgen dat mensen hun woning op een verantwoordelijke manier aan gasten verhuren. Ook maken ze het makkelijker om toeristenbelasting te betalen. De wethouders Ivens (Wonen) en Kock (Financiën) hebben een overeenkomst getekend met Airbnb. Daarin spreken de partijen af om verhuurders te voorzien van duidelijke en toegankelijke informatie over de regels die in Amsterdam gelden voor particuliere vakantieverhuur. Het wordt ook makkelijker voor verhuurders om toeristenbelasting te innen en af te dragen, omdat Airbnb dat namens de verhuurders gaat doen.
